DEADLY DISASTER !!!!!

On Wednesday August 15 2007, a catastrophe struck the central coast of Peru at 23:40:58 UTC. The cause of this disastrous earthquake was the upwards movement of the South American Plate and seaward over the Nazca Plate which are converging at a rate of 3.1 inch every year.
The earthquake that measured 8.0 on the moment magnitude scale took away 519 lives, leaving 1366 people injured. A church collapsed and more than 530,000 houses were destroyed by the natural disaster.80% of the city of Pisco was destroyed.
In response to the catastrophe, the Government of Peru aided by building shelters for the homeless and providing clean water and medical services. Food, education and psychosocial support were offered especially for the children.

My Reflections

To minimize damage from such events,I think that there should be a warning before the disaster strikes if possible so that the citizens can prepare by stocking up food and evacuate if needed. Arrangements for the citizens to stay in ready built shelters should be carried out before the disaster strikes. A warning siren should be alarmed to ensure that nobody is out on the streets.
